Directed Perception Pan-Tilt Unit Enables Intelligent Surveillance Systems

Plug-and-play unit helps read license plates, protect ports

BURLINGAME, California. January 08, 2004 - Directed Perception, Inc. today announced the release of its PTU-D46 family of computer controlled pan-tilt units. The PTU-D46 family promises to play a key role in the war on terrorism by enabling fully interactive and automated detection and tracking systems. Today's surveillance software systems rely on increasingly automated techniques to detect and react to events to improve performance and lower operating costs. Reading license plates and detecting and tracking movement of ships in and out of seaports are key tools in today's advanced security applications. At the center of these systems is the ability to interactively and automatically direct and control sensor systems to focus attention where it is needed most. The PTU-D46 family is a modular pan-tilt unit that provides unique capabilities for these automated surveillance systems including:

  • Accurate control of speed, acceleration, and position (to 0.771 arc minute resolution)
  • On-the-fly speed/position changes to allow both position and velocity servocontrol
  • Speeds up to 300º/second
  • Payload capacity up to 9 pounds, with mounting for virtually any type of payload including IR and video cameras as well as microwave, laser, and other sensors.
  • Compact size (less than 5.2" x 3.6" footprint) and low weight (less than 3 lbs.)
  • Designed for 100% duty cycle and rated for millions of moves
  • Rugged design with outdoor option

Control from any device or software package

The PTU-D46 can be controlled from any surveillance software system using RS-232 and the built-in ASCII command protocol or available C-language Application Programming Interface (CAPI). Built-in RS-485 multidrop network capabilities allow a single host port to control up to 30 pan-tilt devices. Adapters can be used to control the PTU-D46 over wireless 802.11b (WiFi) or Ethernet networks.

Price and Availability

The PTU-D46s are available from stock now. Pricing is less than $900 in quantity.
